TriAthy is one of Ireland’s favourite triathlons. It is popular because of its flat, gentle course and shallow, safe river Barrow. For this reason, it attracts first time participants as well as professional triathletes who are chasing a personal best. In 2012, Jensen Button, Formula 1 World Champion showed up with his team. You never know who you will meet there!
TriAthy is unique because the Organisers run a Programme tailored for complete beginners. It is called “6 Weeks to Try”. The sole aim is to encourage, coach and help those who are ready to step up to the challenge of their first triathlon.
The Organisers have a lot of experience dealing with newcomers, so they understand your nerves and fears. Rest assured that you do not need a fancy bike. In fact, you don’t even need to know how to swim! Unlike most other triathlons in Ireland, TriAthy operates a 2 or 3 person relay team option. Buddy up with a friend, or two, and come along. There are ways to overcome every hurdle.
The TriAthy Organisers will guide you step-by-step with your training, recovery, technique and race kit. They run FREE training camps in the build up to the event and also host a trial swim in the Barrow the week before TriAthy. Sounds too good to be true? Check it all out for yourself. So, there are no excuses not to TRY! Come, meet new friends, get fitter and bank your METS.
